KARNATAKA UNIVERSITY
It is proud privilege for the people of Dharwad that they have a university.
In 1949 the Karnataka University was founded and the magnificent building was built in
1958..
Due to the fervent efforts of Dr D.C. Pavate who was the third Vice Chancellor of
Karnataka University most of the departments were established. The University campus is
spread in the northwestern part of Dharwad. The weather is so pleasant that it was called
"Chota Mahabaleshwar". University has a very rich collection of books (more than
4 lakhs) and the library building is standing in a little remote and insylvan surrounding
of the University campus.
There is a historical Research Institution consisting of old writing on plamyra leaves,
engraved copper sheets. A very good collection of old coins and idols have enriched the
treasure of this institution.
There are 35 departments including Medicine, Engineering, Ayurveda, Music, Education
Yoga, Criminology, Women studies etc. There is a Kausali Institute of Management Course.
There is a separate wing for Gandian Studies also.
