Part VIII Shri.Puranik went through sheer torture and saved the lives of hundreds of youths but this apparently made the congressmen furious!! They met Mr.Alwandi Shivamurthy Swami, who was the convenor of the Mundargi Youth camp at Gadag and praised him and his leadership qualities a lot. They wondered that it would be wrong that while Mr.Alwandi Shivamurthy Swami was present in Gadag to recieve Shri.Ramanand Theertha, the other leaders of the fight for liberation of Hyderabad were not there!! Mr.Swami immediately agreed with them and sent a message that all the youth leaders must immediately come to Gadag and meet him!!! Mr.Virupakshappa B, who was leading the Tambralli youth camp immediately decided to leave for Gadag and forced the tired and injured Shri.Puranik to accompany him !! While the night train from Hospet to Gadag had left for the day, Mr.Virupakshappa decided that they will travel by Goods train and reach Gadag!! Mr.Virupakshappa proved to be a ideal follower to Mr.Shivamurthy Swami!! So, Mr.Virupakshappa and Shri.Puranik got into a bogie of the goods train and started the travel to Gadag! Convinced that Mr.Alwandi Shivamurthy Swami's message will bring all the youth leaders to Gadag, the congressmen conveyed this to Nizam police and soon the orders were issued to police to reach all the railway stations from Hospet to Gadag and once they spot the youth leaders, then without warning to fire and kill all the leaders immediately.! Fortunately, the police searched the night train from Hospet and finding no leaders in it, thought that they will start the journey by the next morning train!! The goods train left Hospet at 3am and halted for an hour at Munirabad and it was 6 am by the time it reached Koppal. The Nizam police were everywhere in Koppal station and were eagerly waiting for the morning train to come. They thought it was a golden opportunity to take revenge for looting the Kukunoor police station!! Fortunately nobody looked into the goods train and the train continued its journey towards Gadag-Hubli. It was when the train left Bannikoppa station that Shri.Puranik and Virupakshappa.B could breathe easy. Now they were in the border of Dharwad district and with the support of Dharwad District collector, they were safe. But death missed them by a whisker, when a special train with Nizam police and officers passed by the goods train near Gadag. If only someone decided to stop and check the goods train, it would be sure death for Shri.Puranik and others!! Reaching Gadag at 3pm, they met Me.Shivamurthy Swami and then went to recieve Shri.Ramanand Theertha. Shri.Ramanand Theertha was over joyed to meet Shri.Puranik and spent long hours with him to discuss on what was done and what needs to be done in the fight for liberation of Hyderabad!! He vowed to use the Mundargi youths as a example and start such movements all over Andhra Pradesh as well. This was a moment of pride to the people of Karnataka as well. Thanks to the intervention of the district collector of Dharwad, the district collector of Raichur withdrew the arrest warrant against the youths and both the Nizam police and the local congressmen were very much disappointed!!! Shri.Puranik returned with the youths to Mundargi and the fight against the Razaakars began again. |
