Excellent Page. I spent 15 years in Dharwad, from my school days ( Basel MIssion
School ) to my M.Sc. In K.U.

University during 1963-66. I left India in September, 1966.

here for Darshanam. It is such a great feeling to see the pictures of Dharwad and its

Born in Dharwar, educated and careered in Bombay, I have though a few sentiments
towards my birth place. I wish I could enjoy all that I love of Dharwar its pure culture,
its rich heritage above all its high educational profile enbound with renowned
artists,poets etc.
I only wish that Dharwar should also been a industrial area atleast in my area of
pharmaceutical research so that i could feel the breathe of my native fresh air.
Above all I feel the hospitality in total sense in hearts of Dharwadians which should be

Excellent effort! I'm basically from Bangalore (born and brought up here), but my family
roots are at Dharwad and hence the attachment.
I was thrilled to discover the site (which I did by accident) and have thoroughly enjoyed
reading it. Almost all my vacations in childhood

Kudos to you ! You have really done a commendable job by hosting this site. It really made
me go down through memory lanes and recall my school & college days
with great nostalgia.
Dharwad is really a center of excellence in education (Vidyapeetha) and has churned out
lots of meritorious students who are leading successful professional lives in most parts
of the world. It's really a heartening news and at the same time sad too (la a brain-drain
syndrome) ! Personally, I rate Dharwad as the 3rd best city in Karnataka following
Bangalore and Mysore.
It's high time that Hubli-Dharwad gets due recognition from Govt of Karnataka and gets
sufficient financial aids to improve infrastructure facilities, better roads, transport
and traffic lights. Also, more and
more Industries, Public Sector Units should come up in the belt to provide local
employment. It's the sites like yours who should voice opinion and bring it to the
awareness of powers-that-be that Dharwad
has potential and can be a real counter-magnet to B'lore. Looking at all those pics, one
feels that given a proper promotion and campaign, Dharwad can become very good tourist
spot of national
repute.
Let's hope that Dharwad leverages it's educational base and becomes a techno savvy city
soon.

where hundreds of Darwadis visit every saturday. I am sure this would not have been

I graduated from SDM college of Engg. in 1986. We had a pretty cool graduating class
(all of us freaked out when they used to post our grades on the wall!!!) I spent 4 fun
years in Dharwad, and had a great time. Our cricket team didn't lose a game for three
years in a row. I hope the tradition continues...some of my team/class mates
wete...Shrutaravi Dharanendra (AKA Big Mama), Jayaraj Ajri, Melvyn, Satyaprasad Rai,
Satish Shetty, Jeevan Malpe, Nikhil Kango, (forgive me if I left out many folk.. I think I
should atleast remember 11...damn!!)
Things/places I remember about Darwad...Kamat's,the dhaba in front of Agri...toll naka
where we frequented the tapri's (?), the store in front of the old SDM where we would
hang-out, the Bondas and Idlis at Uday's....the frequent blackouts during our final exams,
the movie theater on the highway (name ??)near our college, the truck rides to Hubli, my
motorcycle, all the cricket gounds (KCD, Karnatak University).
Anyways...If there are any members of my class.. or if someone even remembers
me/us...email me...
We had a great time in Dharwad, and I will remember it always.

When I came across your web site it brought back a flood of some very fine memories
of my six year stay in Dharwar as a student.
1969 to 1975 were the most formative years interms of my education (B.Sc Chemistry
1969-1972 at Karnatak Science College) and 1972-1975 (Karnatak University Chemistry
Department).
Dharwar was indeed a fine place, the weather always pleasent (expect April and May too
hot), the people friendly and well learned. My only regret was I did not take more of its
rich cultural heritage
that Dharwar had soo much to offer. I still think of all those great friends I had during
my college days, the simple but great times we had. Gopal and Vasant two cherised friends
of whom I have lost touch with.
Now in my early fifties, I always tell my eldest son who is a teenage and presently
studying in Grade 11, if you spend at least two to three years in Dharwar will give you a
greater meaning and appreciation of life in this country.

Its horror story and it should not have happened and because of the scale and magnetude of
this epidemic we are all frustrated and may get carried away and vent our anger on someone
( see comments below). Well, lets all forget the harsh words. Lets all hope and pray that
no more lives are lost in Dharwad. Please continue this at disscusion board.
( Guest book is really one way - So please use disscussion forum for exchannge of views on
Cholera). I dont know why press is calling this by some fancy name gastro-enxxxxx. Cholera
is name for the killer disease.
If you have any information on how Govt is helping in preventing spread of disease and/or
information on victims of the disease,please share that information with rest of us.

Hi Dharwadians,
I am the same guy who dropped the commets on the guest book yesterday suggesting to close
the website if it is not possible to update information.
I was totally under a different impression that Dharwad.com is a state
government(Karnataka) owned site and maintained by a local jilla parishath body.
I was flabberghasted to see the comments from different readers about efforts vested by
the people settled in states to start and maintain the site. (Hampihuli,Veena Desai..)
I can now understand how difficult it is to maintain this site and update information.
I fully agree that these people are doing great job staying in America that I won'tbe able
do though I am india. Hatsoff to you.
I shall take back my words. I sincerely apologise for my harsh comments and request the
whole team to forgive me.
I don't want to be a typical indian crab,certainly not.

I do agree that VIJAY SAI (if i am not wrong) has given his views in bit harsh manner and
closing the site is not at all a solution.
. His view of closing the site must have come since this is the only site related to
dharwad which could have been used more effectively to educate people.
As some people have pointed out, talking about electronic media and technology suits only
for western countries,where as in our home town the technology is so advanced that even
sewage water is mixed with drinking water.
Hampihuli and others have really done a very good job.
But, this site could be made still more effective by including
more articles relavant to the present situation.

This site is maintained by professionals in USA, who take time in their hectic
working schedule. Be happy that you are having atleast this much to see. If u want regular
news go to local newspaper like Samyuktakarnataka who sometimes update news on the net
after one or two months. And being in Bombay you can always go to a book stall and buy a
Karnataka newspaper and read about whats happenning in Dharwad..

It is very awry to see the local news being not updated regularly. The natives of
Dharwad reciding else where will be very eager to see the ongoing crsis like gastroenteris
that has gripped the city, steps taken to coumteract by municipality, total casualities
etc., But any body would get frustated when he hooks on to the site curiously and finds
the stale news on the screen for days together.
If it is not possible to update information on daily basis, then
better to slose this site so that no one will have to waste his /her time on this.
