Visiting this site, I almost took a virtual tour of Dharwad. In the recent times most of the people say Dharwar instead of Dharwad (which is authentic and more to the heart). I have vivid memories of my childhood which was spent in Dharwad.
I am sure this website makes people from all over the world who belong/ed to Dharwad in one way or the other come together and feel a special bonding. I wish to come back to this site often.

This page brings my memories back in my "Matru Bhoomi" and the student days spent at Karnatak College as an under-gradaute studentand as inmate of Liberal Blocks Hostel in Dharwad.I particularly remember the day whe my journal was thrown out of the class by the Botany ProfessorKulkarni just because I was chatting up to my mate rather than listening to him.Well,I think he is a crack pot.I stood first in Biology grabbing highest marks.Pressure has always put me ahead in my race to be the best and I think,as a flashback,I paid the price at some stage of my life. e rather than listenig to him.

I have been deeply influenced by all things karnataki, esp. dharwadi. My mother is a kannadiga. Dharwad
was my ajol, my grandparents (My grandfather, Shri Vasudevrao Kulkarni of Hurlikoppi, was in the
Agriculture dept.) were the tenants of the erstwhile Sonakka Konnur. Later my grandparents moved to Hubli,
but my associations with Dharwad continued. A close relative, Dr. GS Kulkarni, lived on the Agriculture
college campus, and many of my happy moments were spent in its shady premises. Prof. Mutalik-Desai
taught me during my Ph.D at IIT Mumbai. My Ph.D was on Shashi Deshpande, daughter of the great Adya
Rangacharya, and Naregal master's granddaughter was a friend. So at all stages of my life, Dharwad has
been a part of my life. It is a fond wish of mine to take my daughter there one day and show her all my haunts.

I was a student of SDMCET from 1984-1988. I stumbled upon this website by chance, and am glad that I did so. The website brings back some nostalgic memories of those fun-filled days at SDMCET and in Dharwad.

I had recently had come to Dharwad on vacation. I felt very bad about the city. It is not the same city
I lived for first 18 years way back 1983. Least to say about the roads. Should I call them as Roads! Some
road with lots of pits!. Shame on the officers who mentain the roads!
Wake up guys. This is ur city and U are in largest democracy in the world. Catch hold of so called concered
ministers, PWD officers and muncipality people!. I do not get surprised if some officer is caught with Rs 2 Crore
asset in his pocket. Because I felt nothing is possible in this country with out curreption.

Kannada is Kannada, but this being a web-site for and about Dharwad, I was shocked to see Bangalore Kannada Slang being posted here.
I have lived most of my life outside Dharwad, but each visit shows the [slow] change in the language. Having closely seen Kannada spoken in atleast 4 styles, I feel that the Dharwad Kannada style should not be changed. It is beautiful and rich in every way [including the slang]. The piece on "Kannada Slang" in "Nimma Puta" was a shock.

I have left my heart at my birth place Dharwad, and I miss everything about it, the landscape, the peolple,and the language, the smells and the sounds and not forgetiing the monsoons, especially the drizzle (MIRUGU) in the early months of June, and the fair(Jathri). I want to go back but I can't go back because I am caught in forward going rat race. What a dilemma, what an impasse, what a riddle. Looks like I can't have them both but I don't want to give up neither, any answers?
